Barbara Residency was founded in 2016 in memoriam of the French singer Barbara who passed away in 1997. Its aim is to support the arts by providing space and circumstances that would help artists to leave their everyday environment to conduct research and produce art in the idyllic town of Ayvalık along the North Aegean coast. The space is fully furnished and consists of three-storey main building of 80 square metres, a foyer of 35 square metres, and a studio of 30 square metres. The facilities include regular cleaning and laundry, electricity, running water, WIFI and A/C. The programme that started in early 2016 covers all costs related to artists’ stay. A “Selection Committee” was formed with Şerif Kaynar and İbrahim Okumuş as permanent members and two other independent members to manage the selection process.
