Gizem Aksu (1987) is an independent choreographer, dancer and academic from İstanbul. She graduated from the Department of Political Science & International Relations, Boğaziçi University and Department of Contemporary Dance, Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University ISC with honor degrees. She both pursues Proficiency in Art Programme and works as an academic there. In addition to her artistic work, she is an art critic and her writings and articles are being published at mimesis-dergi.org. As a dancer and choreographer, she has participated in several festivals, residency programmes, biennial and quadrennial in Belgium, Crotia, the Czech Republic, India, Spain, Portugal and Turkey. She has worked with such renowned choreographers as Aakash Odedra (UK), Ann Van den Broek (Ward/ward) (BE), Aydın Teker (TR), Marc Vanruxt (BE), Tijen Lawton (BE), Tuğçe Tuna (TR) and performed in several festivals and venues in Belgium, Canada, Germany, Italy, UAE, UK and Turkey. Recently, her last work Archive of Feelings:İstanbul had its premiere in İstanbul. Gizem is on tour with Aakash Odedra Company (UK) for their project, #Jesuis. She was invited by Meg Stuart and Moriah Evans to participate in WITH which will be realised in Tanzplattform 2020. She has been selected as one of the three young choreographers for Think Big residency by the Staatsballett Hannover (directed by Marco Goecke) and the festival TANZtheater INTERNATIONAL for 2021.
