Canan Yücel Pekiçten is a dance artist, choreographer, and lecturer with Bachelor, Master, and Proficiency in Arts degrees in dance. Her works were performed on a national scale in İstanbul, as part of the 19th and 21st İstanbul Theatre Festivals by İKSV amongst others, and internationally in Utrecht, Vilnius, Gdansk, Gothenburg, New York, Turin, Pamplona, Paris, Amsterdam, and Lisbon. Her choreography earned her the first prize at the 8th Gdansk Dance Festival in 2016. She has been granted artist residencies in Saari Residence (Kone Foundation, Finland), 3:e Våningen (Sweden), Movement Research (ArtsLink, USA), Espace Darja (Morocco), tanzhaus nrw (Germany), A Corner in the World (Turkey), and La Cité Internationale des Arts (France). She has collaborated with many Turkish and international choreographers and artists, participated in several festivals, including the 58th Venice Biennale. Her research and works deeply distort, challenge and revisit the themes and cultural representations linked to orientalism, social classes and femininity.
