Marianne Villière uses context as a starting point to create unsettling, disruptive situations that inspire reflections on how we live together. Her work aims to spark debate, liberate latent controversial energy, and negotiate alternatives to existing power relations. Her interest in the incongruous has also led her to explore other disciplines, such as microsociology. Through the observation and composition of performative postures, she aims to put the public sphere into play as a shared experience. She questions our collective habits and reactions. The collaborative forms which she employs emerge from her experience in cultural mediation and civil disobedience. Lately, the ecological issues have become more and more explicit in her practice.
