Born in Tehran, Iran, Mirak Jamal is a Canadian artist currently living in Berlin, Germany. His work often employs a variety of tools and media for installations and sculptures, drawing and painting, writing, and more. During his residency in the winter of 2019/20, he travelled around Turkey at locations connected to the theme of the Bronze Age. He was able to capture first-hand photo and film material of historical sites, forgotten and hidden ruins, as well as the urbanisation developments of the regional surroundings. His work has been shown internationally, with recent solo exhibitions at Galerie Sultana in Paris in 2016, 2018, and 2020; Kunsthall Oslo in 2019; and participations in group exhibitions including Brücke Museum, Berlin; Kunsternes Hus, Oslo; 1857, Oslo; Union Pacific, London; Kunstverein Freiburg; the 15th İstanbul Biennial; Pinakothek der Moderne, Munich; Hamburger Bahnhof, Berlin.
